Victorian Plantings and Randall's Statue

The Victorian flavor of Snug Harbor is reflected in the Staten Island Botanical Garden's Accent plantings surrounding important points of interest. Facing the waterway are relics of Snug Harbor's past now used as the centers of displays. A statue of Robert Richard Randall, founder of Snug Harbor, and the Neptune Fountain provide the centerpieces for intricate patterns formed by annuals. Using the method known as 'bedding out' the Garden's horticulturist create weaving ribbons of coleus, dusty miller and marigolds.
As visitors stroll the
paths in front of the landmark buildings which have been part
of New York City's Maritime history for so long, they can only
be impressed by Staten Island Botanical Garden's respectful observance
of 19th century
traditions.
