Lynn Steinman Rhododendron Collection

The Staten Island Botanical Garden's Rhododendron collection was started in 1999 with 60 specimens of Rhododendron 'Celebration', Rhododendron 'Roseum Supurba' and Rhododendron chinoidies. Future plans call for unusual varieties and different species to be planted within the collection. There are close to 800 species of Rhododendron. They are woody plants with the majority blooming from spring to early summer. Flower colors range from white, pink, red, orange and purple. They range in height from 1 foot to 100 feet and can be either evergreen or deciduous. Rhododendrons do best in an acidic soil with lots of humus.
