Pond Garden

Renovated in 1994, the Pond Garden's past is still discernible. The restored 'lighthouse' is a reproduction of a similar one that stood in the same spot. Resting once more on its promontory overlooking the pond, it is now joined by a distinctive topiary sculpture.

Making use of the bog-like ground surrounding the pond are a myriad of plants especially suited to growing in marshy conditions. The Pond Garden is different from other gardens in that it is not as manicured. It simultaneously gives the impression of conforming to a plan while being a scene which could easily be observed in nature. This untamed quality is intentional as the garden joins the feelings associated with being in a natural setting. Yet still being somewhere that is a product of planning. These two qualities vary depending upon where in the garden one is.

Additions to the Pond garden have not been limited to plant life. Two black Australian swans have taken up residence here along with the goldfish, ducks and turtles making the Pond Garden a favorite with children.
