Perennial Garden

Being one of the largest
perennial border of its kind in the New York City Metropolitan
area, the Perennial Garden occupies center stage at the Staten
Island Botanical Garden. From April through October, the Perennial
Garden is in bloom following a carefully orchestrated blueprint
so that it is continuously
in flower with colors that complement one another. Containing
over 200 cultivars, the perennials that can be found range from
some of the familiar types to the more rare varieties. Tall spikes
of delphinium and foxglove can be found rising amid goat's head,
cranesbill, bee balm, false dragon head, toad lily, lamb's ear
and a host of other flowers few people have heard of much less
have seen. Not forgotten under the stately norway maples bordering
the garden, shade loving perennials thrive and provide a gradual
transition between the dramatic colors of the garden and the charming
decorative fence that encloses it. The irresistible explosion
of colors sets the stage for many of the social events held at
the garden. With a setting such as this it is not surprising to
see catered affairs and wedding parties taking place in front
of the garden.
