The Staten Island Botanical Garden is committed to making its exhibits, programs, and services accessible to all who visit.
Handicapped parking spots are permanently reserved throughout the facility. Snug Harbor Rangers are also available 24-hours a day to assist visitors to the site.
Wheelchairs are available to borrow free of charge on a first-come, first-serve basis. If a wheelchair is needed, call 718-273-8200.

The Staten Island Botanical Garden has full accessibility to the majority of its gardens. By the very nature of being a garden there are a few areas that have partial accessibility. Gardens are listed below with their accessibility range.
Fully accessible gardens include those, which have extra wide pathways, level to low graded walkways, and/or wheelchair ramps included in their design. These gardens include the Rose Garden, the World Trade Center Educational Tribute Building, the Pond Garden, the Allee, the Butterfly Garden, the Shade Garden, the Lions’ Sensory Garden, the Potager Garden and the Perennial Garden and the herb Garden.
New gardens under construction will provide full access. These include the Garden of Healing and the Richmond County Savings Foundation Italian Gardens.
White Garden: It’s small scale and tight turns can be a little difficult to navigate.
Greenhouse: Internal climate control features require doors with which wheelchair occupant’s man need assistance.
Scholars Garden is 85% accessible: Entrance to the garden may be accessed from a side gat by the gift shop adjacent to the Scholar’s Garden. A few areas have a step or two, which are not navigable for a wheelchair.
Connie Gretz’s Secret Garden: The Castle tower has steps to an upper landing. This is not wheelchair accessible. Entering through the front gate a wheelchair may pass through the tower to view the maze area. The maze itself is not wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair.

The garden provides learning opportunities for visitors of all ages. SIBG’s education programs can be adapted for students with special needs.
Classrooms for educational programming are fully wheelchair accessible.

Guided tours of the Chinese Scholar’s Garden are available through the Garden Gift Shop on a walk-in basis for between 1-5 people depending on availability of docents. Please call ahead 718-362-1014 to schedule group tours.
Call ahead to reserve a spot in our 1 pm garden tours which encompass several gardens. These tours run on Wednesday’s, May through September.

The café, restrooms and first aid stations on premises are wheel chair accessible. The café’s outdoor dining is accessible for wheelchairs. Wheelchair accessible restrooms are located on the deck area by the New York Chinese Scholar’s Garden. Additional restrooms are available in the Main Hall in Snug Harbor’s Visitor’s Center.
